republicans, of course, have not always been willing to work together. that's not how president obama deals with it. that's an interesting topic one that we'll discuss not only today but throughout, and the president on a good-news front has a new strategy which is not to rely on the republicans so much. here, here on that. we'll bring in a couple of experts, michael shure, our own epics politics man and joe williams dc reporter and commentator, it's great to have both of you guys on. joe, let me start with you first. what is your over all take on the speech. does it show that the president is going to be more aggressive in his second term or is it the usual stuff? >> i think it signals that he's going to be more aggressive in the second term. you heard him mention some things that we haven't heard him talk about before. he talked about climate change. he talked about voting rights. he also talked about trying to protect the elderly and the most vulnerable. these are things that we heard from the president long term but we have not heard them talked in a way in a national address. we'

the commander in chief ball tonight. president and mrs. obama dancing first together and then with a member of the air force and a member of the marines, with a chest full of medals. to al green, as sung by jennifer hudson. i'm duty-bound to inform you that the first lady's gown is by jason wu, and her shoes are by jimmy choo. i know i sound ridiculous saying that, but you know you wanted to hear it. this ball is specifically for members of the united states military and their families. it is a tradition that was started under president george w. bush. they have expand it this year to be larger than it has ever been. it's essentially doubled in size. there are two official inaugural balls, two only in washington tonight. one of them is the commander in chief ball. and the other of them is the other official inaugural ball. thanks for being with us on what is kind of a big day in washington. you know the basics of what happened today. church service at st. john's house near the white house. the president goes from the white house then to the capitol, then he is sworn in at the capit

of singing for the president and first lady's first dance of the night. mister and mrs. obama danced at the commander in chief's ball, to al green's "let's stay together." alicia keys also performed, and changed her hit song, "girl on fire" to "obama's on fire." actor jamie foxx sang "i can't stop loving you" by ray charles as vice president biden and his wife shared their first dance. tense moments on icy lake michigan this morning. as rescue crews tried to reach a dog that was stranded on the ice for hours. drivers first spotted the black dog along south lake shore drive in jackson park harbor and called 9-1-1. police, firefighters and animal rescue crews all showed up. the dog apparently walked out on the frozen lake. rescuers feared the dog would fall in through a thin patch of ice. they finally were able to shoot it with a tranquilizer and rescue the animal. one of our guys went out to grab him. when he passed a tried to bring him home. we're told that the dog was not harmed. the animal rescuers trying to locate the owner. of one of the victims in the algeria hostage crisis. als
